Ren Fuji (藤井蓮, Fuji Ren?) also known as Setsuna (刹那, Setsuna) or Moment is the main protagonist of Dies Irae , the substitute of Mercurius, and a Guardian of the Fifth Heaven.
Personality[]
Ren is considered a recluse by many in his school, quiet and enjoying staying with him. He is characteristically crude and straightforward in his dialogues, and even when he tries to be polite, he usually gives raw answers to questions, especially when angry.
Ren is sarcastic, perceptive and intelligent, often having fun at Kasumi's expense.
Ren is also slightly perverted, and although this side of him is rarely shown, he is not ashamed to show it when he has the opportunity. However, the most striking thing about Ren is his desire for serenity and routine; His greatest desire is to have a repetitive, but safe and good life, a desire that is embodied in his Briah "I want to live this moment forever".
He has always had a strong aversion to any type of blade.
He is a tsundere, acting somewhat coldly to those he is close to, despite actually caring deeply for them.

Ren has a very unique Ahnenerbe, being not only an object, but his own individual having the will of Marie.
When manifested as a weapon, it takes the form of a blade upon his arm, which imposes decapitation upon its victims, much like Marie during her life.
He is capable of wielding any Relic he lays his hands upon, regardless of their owner, as shown by his ability to wield both Thrud Walkure and Longinuslanze Testament, though the latter did still have the effect of eroding his mind and body alike.
Assiah[]
Ren's Assiah creates a cutting force that can cut an object close to his hand into pieces with ease. We have not shown this used much during the story, and it has little use due to needing to be at a close range to his target for it to function.
Yetzirah - Margueritte Bois de Justice []
Main article: Marguerite-Bois de Justice
Manifests as a red and black scythe extending from his right arm, with his arm encased in a similar "metal."
This can replicate Marie's curse, causing instant death, regardless of immortality or regeneration, if he strikes at a target's neck.
This though only takes effect if the neck is hit, and only deals normal physical/spiritual damage when striking elsewhere.
His main combat style when using this is to release a flurry of blows to cut his opponent into slivers.
Beri'ah - Eine Faust Overture[]
« The Sun, since time immemorial, his brother-stars in song had rivaled. Bolting ‘long a path predestined, with thunder echoing in his wake. And with swiftness — swiftness beyond measure –, his perpetual cycle fought. His path ravaged, to ashes scorched. Unknown, peerless supremacy, by heav’ns wrought. Equal in beauty to the first of your days! |
(Ren enacting his Beri'ah) |
The Gudou-Type Beri'ah of Ren Fuji, borne from his desire "I want this moment to last forever.".
When activated, it speeds up time for himself, allowing him to reach such speeds that he saw lightning as if it were frozen, or allowing him to exchange over fifty blows with Reinhard in less than a hundredth of a microsecond, a feat requiring him to move far faster than even light itself.
Eine Faust Scherzo[]
"I don't want the dead to live."[1]
Activated during Kei's Route, it allows him to kill the living dead, specifically the members of the LDO that were resurrected by the Golden Halls of Gladsheimr.
This was a short lived Beri'ah, though it gave him a great advantage over those resurrected by the Golden Castle, and while he does trade in much of his speed and strength, he makes up for it in the pure specialization and effectiveness of Scherzo, which was perfect for his situation.
As he relied upon Thrud Walkure his synchronicity with the weapon, and by extension his Beri'ah, is severely diminished due to not being properly bonded or acquainted with the Relic.
Beri'ah - Eine Faust Finale[]
An alternative Hadou-Type Beri'ah.
This is achieved by being empowered via Mercurius and turns him into a raging beast, his entire body being covered with red and black, and scythes protruding from his back. A vermillion caduceus upon his chest.
In this form, he can speed up time for himself, while passively slowing down time for those around him. Allowing him to achieve speeds far greater than anything he could achieve with Overture.
His strength also increases to the point that he can even being able to get past the defensive powers of Heilige Eohl.[2] Requiring strength comparable to that of Longinuslanze Testament.
Though it did originally require him be calmed by Rea, for he was lost in mindless rage and blood-lust, attacking friend and foe alike in his fury.
Atziluth: Res Novae - Also Sprach Zarathustra[]
« Vast is the sea, its waves reaching horizons far and wide; eternal is the radiance of its azure womb. And so let us ride this moment and dash forth, swift as light, quick as a star eternal. Hear my plea, and grant this one wish: the world longs for an era of peace; days that know not strife. In a world where only peace is lord, and men join hands in liberty… Allow me to sing but this, O Maiden: |
(Ren activating his Law) |
Ren's highest form, where everything in existence is at every level frozen in place. Even concepts are left frozen in a state of eternal stasis. The ultimate manifestation of his wish, "I want to enjoy this moment forever." Though, oddly, it is not a manifestation of this wish, but rather of a new desire, "I want to protect my loved ones."[3]
It allows no changes, a complete stasis reaching even to Realms where Time itself doesn't exist, such as the Throne. A complete stop to everything in existence, whether it be a simple action, manipulation of reality, or so on. No one dies and nothing is lost, but no new life is created as Ren's Law prevents any changes that occur in existence.
It can passively manifest as "time armor," though this is only shown in his incarnation as Tenma Yato.

Trivia[]
Ren, Mercurius, and Lotus all have the same CV, Kosuke Toriumi.
Name[]
Zarathustra is taken from the philosophical novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None by Friedrich Nietzsche, which acts of the origins of many themes present in Dies irae, such as eternal recurrence, the transcendence of mankind, the struggles of predeterminism, the despair of the cycle, and the acceptance of eternity through transcendence into Übermensch. Zarathustra is the embodiment of Mercurius, along with the opposite of Ren Fuji.
